Weekly Yard Waste Pickup Begins April 8 in Front Royal
Front Royal residents can once again take advantage of weekly yard waste collection as the Town rolls out its 2026–2027 schedule. The service begins Wednesday, April 8, 2026, and will continue through January 27, 2027, with pickups scheduled every Wednesday.
Town officials note that collection will not take place during weeks when Town offices are closed for holidays. Residents are encouraged to plan ahead during those times to avoid missed pickups.
To keep the program running smoothly, the Department of Public Works is asking residents to follow clear guidelines. Yard waste must be placed at the curb before 7 a.m. on collection days. Grass clippings, leaves, and weeds should be stored in reusable containers (such as Rubbermaid-type bins or cardboard boxes), biodegradable bags, or paper bags. Officials stress that all bags must be left untied.
Items such as trash, dirt, rocks, and other debris should not be mixed in with yard waste. Larger materials, such as root balls, stumps, and firewood logs, will not be collected. In addition, bushes and hedges that have been pulled out with roots attached are not accepted.
Brush collection is also available, but there are limits. Branches must be bundled with rope or heavy twine, cut to less than five feet in length, and weigh under 50 pounds. For larger limbs, the Town offers a chipper service. The chipper will handle limbs up to 5 feet long and up to 8 inches in diameter, as long as they are neatly stacked with cut ends facing the road.
Some materials are not suitable for the chipper, including vines, bamboo, and weeping willow branches.
Residents who want to schedule chipper service must contact the Department of Public Works directly at 540-635-7819.
Town officials also remind contractors that this service is for residents only. Yard waste from contractor work will not be collected. Contractors must instead purchase a dump ticket from the Finance Office at 102 East Main Street and dispose of materials at the Manassas Avenue extended site, which is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.
The Department of Public Works is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and is available to answer questions about the program.
With the growing season underway, Town leaders say following these rules will help ensure timely pickups and keep neighborhoods clean year-round.
