Daniel R. Keyser (1933 – 2026)

Daniel R. Keyser passed away at the age of 92 on September 2, 2026. He was born on December 23, 1933, near Washington, VA (Rappahannock Co.). He was predeceased by his parents, Robert L. Keyser and Addie Wharton Keyser, and his siblings, Donald Keyser, Virginia Cloud, Marie Martin Rutherford, and Jeanette Pullen. He is also predeceased by his loving wife, Henrietta (Sally) Dwyer Keyser.

Daniel is survived by his children, Debbie and Danny Keyser; grandchildren Josh Smallwood (Gita), Katie Pifer (Brandon), and David Keyser (Caroline); and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his “adopted” Fresh Air Fund children, Michael Cook, Michelle Cook Parker, and their families, who have been a part of our lives for over 50 years.

Daniel graduated from Washington High School in 1953, while employed there as a bus driver. He enlisted in the United States Army (Korean War). After serving, he moved to Winchester, VA, in 1956 and began his career at O’Sullivan Corp, later working and retiring as a government photographer. After his retirement, he returned to Rappahannock County as a farmer and a beloved school bus driver. He gave back to his community by helping others and volunteering for the Loan Closet, Sperryville Water & Sewer Authority, and lawn maintenance at the Masonic Cemetery in Washington, VA. He attended the Scrabble Senior Center for many years and took pride in assisting with activities and events.

Always ready with a joke and a big smile, he was a friend to so many.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Washington Masonic Lodge, 392 Tiger Valley Road, Washington, Virginia 22747, for lawn care of the Masonic cemetery grounds.

A private service for immediate family will be held, followed by a public Celebration of Life on Oct. 24, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Reynolds Memorial Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 3748 Sperryville Pike, Sperryville, VA.
