Adrian Douglas Burt (1946 – 2026)
Adrian Douglas Burt, age 80, of Linden, passed away peacefully at home on October 26, 2026, surrounded by his family.
A celebration of Adrian’s life will be held at Front Royal Presbyterian Church, Saturday, November 28th at noon. Reception to follow.
Born in London, England, to Bertha (Cave) and Douglas W. Burt, Adrian grew up in the Horsham Congregational church, where he met his wife, Rachel (Isherwood). As a child, he was an avid reader, stagehand, and member of the Combined Cadet Force. He graduated from Collyers Grammar School and Brighton College of Technology, where he studied Electrical Engineering. A member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, he spent a successful 34-year career with Marconi Communications, traveling overseas to work on many projects.
In 1986, Adrian and Rachel moved with their children to Northern Virginia and subsequently retired to Linden, VA in 2001. He was a loving husband and father, remembered by his children for being able to fix anything. Adrian served as a church elder at Witham United Reformed Church in England and Front Royal Presbyterian Church in Front Royal, VA. In retirement, he worked part-time for 17 years at Ramsey Hardware and volunteered with the church, including BackPack Buddies and Community Table.
Travel and exploring were a constant in Adrian’s life. From camping holidays in England to driving cross-country to move his daughter to California, and visiting Japan and Hawaii while she taught English abroad. He especially loved visiting with his family. He enjoyed paddling at the beach with his grandchildren and sharing the peaceful setting of their Shenandoah Valley home with them.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rachel Burt, children Nicola Burt (Chris Banks), Timothy Burt (Christie), and Andrew Burt, his sister, Christine Myram, and sister-in-law, Dupe Isherwood. He was a beloved grandpa to Darwin, Della, Emma, and Colin, and uncle to his nephew and nieces, Robert, Helen, Miriam, Fiona, and Angela.
