‘All About Trees’ course being offered by Tree Stewards
Each year the Tree Stewards offer the “All About Trees” course. Course participants learn proper planting, maintenance, and pruning of trees. Our knowledge of trees is constantly changing as we learn more about these fundamental elements of our natural world. These annual training sessions strive to keep up with this evolving knowledge.
Training will include:
o Basic tree anatomy, biology and life functions
o Soils, water and nutrition
o Selecting the right tree for the right spot
o Tree identification
o Tree ID Walk (field trip)
o Landscaping with trees
o Planting and site analysis
o Tree Health and care
o Pruning and identifying hazard trees that should be removed.
o Pruning Demo and Tools (field trip)
o Urban Forestry
o Class Tree planting
The program uses materials from “Trees Virginia,” developed by the Virginia Urban Forest Council. Classes are taught by ISA certified arborists, nurserymen, landscapers, horticulturalists, and Tree Stewards. The course ends with the hands-on planting of a “Class Tree.”
This year’s “All About Trees” classes will be held on Tuesday evenings September 4th through October 16, 2018, at the Warren County Government Center located at 220 N. Commerce Ave. in Front Royal. Each class will run from 7 -9 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
Additionally, there will be five half-day Saturday sessions ending with graduation and planting of a class tree on Oct 20th. Saturday sessions will include hands-on tree identification and pruning as well as a visit to the State Arboretum of Virginia. ISA CEUs will be available.
Class size is limited to 20 so early registration is recommended.
Class fee is $75 per person or $120 per couple. Early Registration Fee (before 5 Aug) is $65. A sign-up brochure is available here.
The Tree Stewards are celebrating their 21st year in Warren County; Front Royal has been designated as a Tree City USA for 19 years.
