Wednesday ramp, lane closures slated for I-81 in area

Published

on

Ramp and lane closures will occur Wednesday evening near Strasburg and in Frederick County.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is alerting motorists in the region to expect brief ramp and right-lane closures the night of Wednesday, August 15, at three interchanges along Interstate 81 in Shenandoah and Frederick counties. Each closure is expected to last no more than 30 minutes, during the time period of 10:30 p.m. through 5 a.m. the following morning.

The lane and ramp closures are for soil and rock testing at the following locations:

  • I-81 Exit 296 (Strasburg) – the on-ramp from Route 55 to northbound I-81, and the off-ramp from southbound I-81 to Route 55. The northbound and southbound right lanes from mile marker 296 to 298.
  • I-81 Exit 315 (Winchester/Berryville) – the off-ramp from northbound I-81 to Route 7. The northbound right lane from mile marker 315 to 316.
  • I-81 Exit 323 (White Hall/Route 11) – the off-ramp from northbound I-81 to Route 669, and the on-ramp from Route 669 to southbound I-81. The northbound and southbound right lanes from mile marker 323 to 324.

Virginia State Police will help enforce these traffic restrictions, and variable message boards will advise motorists of detour routes for the ramp closures. All work is weather permitting.

Virginia traffic alerts and traveler information can be obtained by dialing 511. Traffic alerts and traveler information also are available at http://www.511Virginia.org.
