Wildlife on display at Berryville Fairgrounds in June

Published

on

The area’s Blue Ridge Wildlife Center (BRWC) in Clarke County, which tends more than 2,000 injured, orphaned, or abandoned wildlife “babies” each year, has announced its first “Wildfest” (Wildlife Festival) on Sunday, June 2, at the fairgrounds in Berryville, noon to 3 p.m.

As BRWC executive director Hillary Davidson describes it, “Wildfest” is “a celebration of everything wild, including native animals that we help, especially the babies…the environment…and the ways we can all live in harmony with our wild neighbors.”

For the past eight years, BRWC has held each spring what it called a “baby shower” calling attention to the approximately 1,100 injured young animals, birds and reptiles, which it wanted the public to know about. “Wildfest” goes a step further, and there will be a plethora of wildlife on display for whole families to see, care givers to meet, and games and activities for the whole family.

“Come join us for this wild event!” Davidson exclaimed.

The $10 per car fee will provide funds for BRWC which, from its Boyce headquarters, a relatively new $1 million building, serves all northern Virginia counties and beyond. It is a full-service teaching wildlife hospital and rehabilitation facility caring for wildlife indigenous to the area. It also provides environmental education programming to schools and civic organizations and has a classroom on the premises.

A nonprofit 501(c)3 charitable organization, it operates without local, state or federal funding, completely dependent on donations from individuals, organizations and foundations.
