Humane Society awarded grant for spay/neuter vouchers

The Humane Society of Warren County has been awarded a grant to be used for spay and neuter surgeries of owned dogs in Warren County.

The grant in the amount of $8,625, made by the DJ&T Foundation, will be used to pay for spay and neuter surgery for local owned dogs, and priority will be given to low-income families. This foundation was established by well-known television personality Bob Barker, who has been a big supporter of spaying and neutering pets.

A special application process has been created for this new program. Proof of income will be required, and the animal must be in good health for surgery to be considered for the voucher.

The Humane Society of Warren County has partnered with the Warren County Veterinary Clinic, who will be performing the surgeries over the next several months. The Warren County Veterinary Clinic has been serving the Warren County community since 1970.

“This grant will help to make responsible thing to do, the easy thing to do.” Says Meghan Bowers, Executive Director at the Humane Society of Warren County. “Every year, we are overwhelmed by the volume of unwanted animals in our community, and by spaying and neutering our pets, and avoiding unplanned litters, we can help curb the pet overpopulation issues we face at the shelter.”

In addition to the new spay and neuter voucher program, the Humane Society of Warren County also operates a free pet food bank, and when funding permits, assists with medical emergency funding for owned dogs and cats. The Hand in Paw program typically has as many as 70-80 families getting support at any given time.

“Community programs, like Hand in Paw and the DJ&T spay neuter vouchers, are an important part of our work at the Humane Society.” Bowers says. “Compassionate care, along with educating the public on how to care for their pets and keep them safe are a huge part of our mission.”

The Humane Society of Warren County is a non-profit organization.
