Dark Tales & Haunting Melodies Take the Stage at Stone Branch

Published

on

Two singular voices in storytelling and song will take the stage at Stone Branch Center for the Arts on Saturday, Nov. 15, for an unforgettable evening of dark folklore, haunting melodies, and lyrical truth-telling.

Singer-songwriter and author Dee Calhoun will read selections from his literary works and perform original songs that echo the themes of his fiction: sin, myth, and the supernatural. With a growing bibliography of chilling tales and Appalachian gothic, Calhoun blurs the line between page and stage. His books include Tales of the Screaming and Mad, Down the Rabid Hole, Old Scratch Comes to Appalachia, and the novel Luman. Many of his stories are born from lyrics, evolving into fully formed literary works that tap into something both ancient and eerie.

Joining him is Shenan Hahn, a beloved songwriter with a voice as grounded as it is ghostly. Hahn will perform a mix of new material and fan favorites, pulling from her deeply rooted folk and blues catalog. Her music blends raw vulnerability with wide-open emotional landscapes, often evoking both the American West and the rolling hills of the Shenandoah Valley.

Together, these two musician-storytellers promise an evening rich in atmosphere — a mix of poetry, shadow, sound, and song.

The event runs from 7:00 to 10:00 PM in the Marigold Space at Stone Branch, located at 114 E. Main Street in Front Royal. Tickets are just $10 and can be purchased online or at the door.

Don’t miss the chance to experience two artists who understand that the truest stories don’t always come wrapped in sunshine — but they always ring true.
