“Daughter of the Stars” Opens in Front Royal, Showcasing 70+ Women Artists in Largest Exhibition of Its Kind

A historic and visually stunning art exhibition is set to light up Main Street this fall. Daughter of the Stars, a major showcase featuring more than 70 women artists from the Shenandoah Valley and greater DMV region (D.C., Maryland, Virginia), opens with a public reception Saturday, October 18, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Melissa Ichiuji Studio Gallery in Front Royal.

With live music from Kate McLeod, Fiddlin’ Dave, and Morgan, refreshments, and an opportunity to meet the artists, the opening promises to be both a community celebration and a cultural milestone.

Part of a Nationally Recognized Regional Collaboration

This exhibit is part of the Women Artists of the DMV Survey Show, a groundbreaking regional project conceived by curator and artist Lenny Campello in partnership with the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center. Spanning 18 venues and involving approximately 400 women artists, the project represents the largest curated exhibition of female artists in the United States.

The title Daughter of the Stars comes from the poetic translation of “Shenandoah,” grounding the exhibit in the region’s natural beauty and historical significance. The Melissa Ichiuji Studio Gallery has been selected to represent the Shenandoah Valley in this sweeping collaborative event.

“This show is more than just a collection of beautiful works,” said artist and gallery founder Melissa Ichiuji. “It’s about visibility, voice, and creating a space where women’s artistic perspectives—diverse, bold, and powerful—are celebrated.”

Community Support and a Growing Cultural Hub

The launch of the Front Royal Project for the Arts signals growing momentum in the region’s creative landscape. The nonprofit’s mission is to enrich the lives of local residents and visitors through transformative art programming, cultural engagement, and support for emerging and established artists.

“We believe the arts have the power to build bridges, spark dialogue, and strengthen community,” said Ichiuji. “This project—Daughter of the Stars and all that surrounds it—is our way of honoring the women who have helped shape that vision.”

With its inclusion in this landmark project, Front Royal becomes part of a larger conversation—one that centers the voices of women artists in shaping the cultural narrative of our time.
