Earl Austin Spriggs Jr. (1947 – 2024)

Earl Austin Spriggs Jr., 77, of White Post, Virginia, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.

The family will receive friends and family on Monday, September 9, 2024, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home.

Earl was born May 15, 1947, in Hagerstown, Maryland, to the late Earl Spriggs Sr. and Lillie Retta Stotler Harrelson. He was also preceded in death by his daughters, Tracey L. Spriggs and Bobbi Beatty; his son, Mark Aaron Spriggs; his grandchild, Matthew Boyle Jr.; his brother, Boyd “Buster” Spriggs; and his sister, Judy Masters.

Earl worked for 18 years at Avtex before he drilled wells for Singhas and then finished up his working career as a farm hand. He loved horseback riding, hunting, fishing, gardening, playing guitar, and watching the Washington Redskins on Sundays. He even rode horses in the local parades. He will be greatly missed by many.

Surviving Earl are his loving wife of 43 years, Gloria J. Spriggs; his children, Earl Austin Spriggs III, William Settle III, Mary Poe, Betty Zaucha, Billie Jo Lockhart, Joyce Whetzel, and Angela Spriggs; his brothers, Charlie Spriggs, James P. Harrelson, Jr., and Kenneth Harrelson; his sisters, Paula Deganhardt, Vickie McDaniel, Robin Rollison, Candy McAlpine, Cathy Harrelson, Gloria “Jeannie” Catlett, and Georgia Kretzer; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and friends.
