Edward “Henley” Brown Sr. (1940 – 2026)

Edward “Henley” Brown Sr., 85 of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 31, 2026.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 7, at 2:00 P.M. at Maddox Funeral Home with Sammy Campbell officiating. Inurnment will be private.

Henley was born on November 3, 1940, in Warren County, Virginia, the son of the late William and Matilda T. Knight Brown.

He retired after many dedicated years from Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local Union 5 of Washington, D.C.

Henley always loved a good bargain. He and his wife owned and operated Sophia’s in Stephens City, Virginia, for many years.

Surviving are two sons, Jerry W. Brown (Sharon) of Ft. Valley and Mike Brown of Front Royal; one daughter, Hope Simmons (Brian) of Buckhannon, West Virginia; one brother, George Brown of Front Royal; one sister, Barbara Henry of Front Royal; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was married to the late Frances Dodson Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Eddie Brown Jr.; two brothers, Hughey Brown and Jr. Brown; and two sisters, Bertha “Sissy” Spears and Ann Brown.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 7, from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
