Elizabeth B. Sherman’s 120th birthday memorial celebration

Published

on

All are invited to join the community in celebrating the legacy of the late Dr. Elizabeth B. Sherman on her 120th birthday: Saturday, August 10th, 2019! Join her niece, Dr. Ellen Perricci (along with her husband Mike), as they return home to Front Royal to honor the memory of the remarkable woman who dedicated her life to Front Royal/Warren County. Stop by the Front Royal Main Street Gazebo from 3:30-5:30, for this free event, to reminisce and pay tribute to Dr. Sherman’s many legacies. Listen to fantastic musical tributes, including a performance by local harpist John Kovac.

Born in 1899, Dr. Sherman left this world in 1997, but her contributions to the community carry on. She graduated at the top of her class from University of Maryland Medical School in 1926, as one of the first women to finish four years of medical school. She eventually built her own medical office building which still stands at the corner of 4th and Virginia Avenue in Front Royal. In 1965, she retired from obstetrics after delivering over 2,200 babies. She retired from medical practice at 91 years old in 1990, and although she never married or had children of her own, she dedicated all of her time to others, her community, her church (The Front Royal United Methodist Church) and charity work.

Let’s honor the memory of one of the finest, most remarkable women to have ever lived in Front Royal. Don’t miss this opportunity to join together as a community, especially in this time of transition, to thank those who have gone before us while pledging to carry on the work they began to make the community a place we’re proud to call home.
