Front Royal Warren County EDA Advances on Key Business Initiatives
Board Members Tackle Strategic Review, Office Relocation, and Property Sale Discussions.
On August 25th, 2023, the Front Royal Warren County Economic Development Authority (EDA) convened for its regular monthly meeting, setting into motion key discussions and decisions that promise to influence the economic direction of the community.
Gathering in the early hours at 8:00 a.m., six board members, along with legal counsel, joined the deliberation. Board Member Rob MacDougall, opting for remote participation, enriched the discussions with his virtual presence. Notably, Bruce Townshend was absent from the day’s proceedings. The meeting opened with Committee and Board Reports, a customary segment that offers insights into the EDA’s ongoing projects and future directions.
One of the highlights of the meeting was a report from Board Vice-Chair J.D. Walter, who brought to light the ongoing efforts to relocate EDA documents from the Kendrick Lane office. This relocation is a strategic move intended to prepare the office for potential leasing opportunities. The strategic direction of the EDA also took center stage as Board Members initiated a conversation on reviewing the EDA’s strategic plan. Spearheading this review will be J.D. Walter and Jim Wolfe, offering their expertise to shape the EDA’s future course.
Joe Petty, the Director of Economic Development, updated attendees on multiple fronts. Key among these updates were the FY2024 budget projection, details about the next Open-Door Business Session, insights into the Avtex Trail meeting, and a holistic overview of economic activities sprouting within the community. Significantly, Petty announced the approval by the USDA of the revised scope of services for the Small Business Loan Program—a nod that signals enhanced support for local businesses.
The Board’s commitment to refining operational efficiencies was evident when they sanctioned revisions to the County and EDA Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) related to IT and Document Storage support services. The official meeting wrapped up with a closed-door session focusing on potential real estate transactions and legal consultations. Emerging from this session, the Board greenlit the sale of properties at Stephens Industrial Park: Parcel 2 and 1321 Happy Creek Road.
For community members, stakeholders, and businesses keen on attending or staying informed, the next EDA meeting has been scheduled for Friday, September 22, 2023, at the Warren County Government Center.
