MATTHEWS, N.C. – The McCain Foods USA company is voluntarily recalling frozen hash browns from stores in nine states – including Virginia – because the potatoes may have pieces of golf balls in them.
McCain’s recall notice said the golf balls apparently were “inadvertently harvested” along with the potatoes and chopped up. They say that pieces could pose a choking hazard, though no injuries have been reported.
The company is recalling 2-pound bags of Harris Teeter Brand Frozen Southern Style Hash Browns in Virginia, Maryland, District of Columbia, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and Georgia.
The product has a UPC code #007203649020. The products being recalled were manufactured on January 19, 2017. The production code date is B170119 and can be found on the back of the packaging. Any product with a different production code date is not impacted by this recall.
Consumers with concerns or questions about the recall should contact McCain Foods USA, Inc. at 630- 857-4533 (Monday – Sunday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. CST).
There are currently 10 Harris Teeter grocery stores in Virginia, including one in Warrenton, two in Manassas, one in Bristown and one in Gainesville.
