Get the most from your local library
While there are countless ways to take advantage of your local branch, here are a few that stand out on the radar.
Families looking for fun things to do that won’t break the bank will love the fact that many libraries offer free programs for several age groups in the family! Front Royal’s Samuels Public Library, for example, offers free blood pressure screenings, free computer classes, a crochet group, and lectures that can be enjoyed by a number of ages.
Coming up later in September, Samuels will offer a two-night event, Jazz History: Origins to Art Form, with lecturer Dr. Robert Larson, Director of Jazz Studies at Shenandoah University’s Conservatory.
Bustle.com suggests looking to the local library for some common services that might be expensive elsewhere.
Getting a document notarized is free at Samuels Library, but can cost several dollard per document if one goes to a bank to have the service performed. Libraries usually offer low-cost scanners and copiers, for those looking to complete a homework assignment or project.
Speaking of projects, the free Wi-Fi available at most libraries will allow for research and other work to be performed if the internet isn’t an option at home. Aside from the typical items available at the library, The Penny Hoarder highlights the fact that many of the larger library systems offer lending programs for things most people wouldn’t expect. These items can range from telescopes to musical instruments and from household tools to cake pans and more.
Without checking to see, there is no way to know if your local branch offers some of these unique options, so it pays to do a little research to take advantage of everything available and to discover as many money-saving gems as possible!
