Update: Lloyd Defeats Silek in Ordered Revote for the Warren County Republican Committee Chairmanship

A result forwarded to us on Wednesday evening showed Scott Lloyd winning the ordered revote for the Warren County Republican Committee (WCRC) chairmanship over David Silek by a 562 to 441 margin of 121 votes. This result was confirmed on the Committee’s Facebook page: “Congratulations to our new Chairman, Scott Lloyd! Scott won today’s Party Caucus 562-441. Thank you for coming out to vote and making your voice heard!”

An interesting Committee Facebook page citizen exchange followed that announcement regarding the high number of voters, and exactly what the parameters of being allowed to vote were:

Stevie Marie: “First of all, congratulations. Secondly, how many people actually belong to the Warren County Republican Committee? This says 1003 people voted. That’s a lot of people. How many belonged before the election when the room was packed with Democrats? This was a very important process to show all of Virginia that we stand for election integrity across all levels.”

Reply by Kevin M. Cuddeback: “Stevie Marie — The election was open to all voters ‘in accord with the principles of the Republican Party’ — we were not voting as Committee members.”

Readers may recall that this revote was the result of accusations of voting irregularities on both sides in the original WCRC February vote. The Committee acknowledged this in a post on August 4th, the day prior to the chairmanship revote:

“As of May 30th, an interim leadership team was appointed for the Warren County Republican Committee (WCRC) following the 6th District’s decision to overturn the February convention election, a decision that was subsequently upheld by the Republican Party of Virginia (RPV).”

Royal Examiner contacted both Lloyd and Silek at the 15th Street Health & Human Services building, the old middle school, as they greeted the long line of voters moving toward the voting site in the building’s old gymnasium at one of its rear entrances.

We asked both candidates to provide us with post-election reflections and a vision and hope for the WCRC moving forward, beyond the recent voting integrity debate. We were first able to get a reply from Silek, who told us this:

“Last night, the voters of the Warren County, VA Republican Committee chose new leadership, 562 to 441. I want to congratulate the winner and thank every person who came out, made calls, posted on social media, and gave up their evening to stand with me. Back in February, we were able to assemble to win, but the election was overturned for no good reason. Last night, we tried again, and the opposition showed up in greater numbers,” Silek observed in opening.

He then added a thank you to what he termed his “team”. It was a list of 21 people, including sitting elected and appointed County and Town officials, among others, to whom he added, “… and so many others whose names could fill pages. I say THANK YOU! Your kindness, your hours of time, and your belief in what we were building together meant more than any vote count can capture. I love you all and am deeply grateful, and grateful, too, to those who showed up to be counted and to vote.

“Please remember that 441 people showed up because they believe the Republican Party grows when it opens its doors. That belief doesn’t end with one election. I’m proud of the campaign we ran and prouder still of the people who ran it with me.”

Update – Lloyd Reaction

Explaining and apologizing for not getting back to us the day after the re-vote result was announced, Lloyd said he had been in or around court all day in his attorney’s role. Below are his comments on the Chairman’s race and moving forward:

“We’re really pleased with the result, and want to start by giving all glory to God for a day where over 1,000 people showed up because they care about our community. David and his team deserve a lot of credit for engaging and mobilizing so many people on behalf of the Republican Party. It’s time to focus on making this a win for the Party and the people of Warren County.”
