Marathon for Homes: Local Runner Partners with Habitat for Humanity to Build Dreams

Published

on

The community spirit in Warren County is getting a boost thanks to a unique partnership between a local runner and the Warren County Habitat for Humanity. In a special meeting at the Royal Examiner studio, hosted by Mike McCool, a group of dedicated individuals gathered to discuss an upcoming event that ties athleticism to altruism: Mike Zawadzki’s participation in the Boston Marathon to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity.

The Race to Build a Home

Mike Zawadzki, a relatively new entrant to the world of road racing, has taken on the challenge of running in the prestigious Boston Marathon. This endeavor is not just a personal milestone but a community effort to support Habitat for Humanity’s affordable housing mission. Zawadzki, whose passion for running blossomed after moving to the area, sees this race as an opportunity to contribute significantly to a cause close to his heart.

Sponsorship and Support

The Habitat for Humanity team, including Sonya Wilkins from the fundraising committee and board director Will Carroll, detailed the sponsorship opportunities available for businesses and individuals who wish to support Zawadzki’s marathon run. Options range from corporate sponsorships, including logo placement on Zawadzki’s marathon T-shirt, to individual donations offering T-shirts as a token of appreciation. All proceeds will directly fund a new home build slated for May or June.

A Community Effort

Zawadzki’s initiative, dubbed “Home Run 2024,” symbolizes the combined efforts of the local running community and Habitat for Humanity’s supporters to make a tangible difference in Warren County. The event underscores the power of community activities, such as running, to foster camaraderie, volunteerism, and shared goals.

Looking Forward

The discussion also highlighted other fundraising activities planned by Habitat for Humanity, including the Gospel Fest and a masquerade ball gala. These events and Zawadzki’s marathon run exemplify the community’s dedication to supporting Habitat’s mission through creative and inclusive initiatives.

How to Contribute

For those inspired to contribute to the “Home Run 2024” initiative, donations can be made through Habitat for Humanity’s website or directly at their office. Every contribution, big or small, plays a crucial role in making the dream of homeownership a reality for deserving families in Warren County.

A Call to Action

As Mike Zawadzki prepares to take on the Boston Marathon, his efforts transcend personal achievement, embodying a community’s collective will to support and uplift its members. This race is a reminder of the impact individuals can make when they combine their passions with a purpose greater than themselves. Let’s rally behind Mike and Habitat for Humanity, proving once again the strength and generosity of the Warren County community.
