National Guard activated on Eastern Shore following storm

Virginia National Guard Spec. Lakin & Sgt. Thomas of the 1710 Transportation Company mobilized out of the Onancock Armory respond to calls on the Eastern Shore.
RICHMOND, Va. — Though the winter storm has moved through the state and northward to New England, Virginia State Police are still dealing with the effects of up to a foot of snow left behind.
State Police Spokeswoman Corinne Geller said in a written statement Saturday evening that state troopers responded to over 500 crashes and about 700 disabled vehicles across the state between midnight and 6 p.m. on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service said parts of southeast Virginia had seen about a foot of snow. More than 11 inches were reported in Williamsburg while meteorologists say Richmond saw more than 6 inches.
Sunday’s high winds have created havoc on Virginia’s Eastern Shore, with snow drifts of three-to-four feet. Soldiers from the Virginia National Guard Onancock Armory have been activated to help with the situation.
