As many of you may have seen, we have a beautiful new mural on the wall next to Mountain Trails on Main Street. This mural, commissioned by Mountain Trails owner Garry Green, has now been officially added to the Appalachian Mural Trail Project! The project was started in 2016 and is meant to depict Appalachian mountain culture, life, flora, fauna, and to beautify rural communities downtown’s, explained Garry Green in a prior interview.
What a fun way to attract new hikers to stop by our downtown Main Street and enjoy our special Town of Front Royal! The mural was painted by our very own Jacqui Ris.
In the works is the “selfie” part of the Mural Program. This will enable visitors to take a selfie of themselves in front of the mural, submit their photo and release form, and get a free mural program t-shirt – all of this for only a smile!
This mural, while not only being part of the Appalachian Mural Trail program, will also be included as part of our Community Development Block Grant that is assisting with the revitalization of our Main Street. According to Felicia Hart, Director of CD and Tourism, more murals are already in the works.

Operation Santa Claus
Ronald “Hoss” Feldhauser stopped by our studios to update us on “Operation Santa Claus” and a few other holiday events happening at the Front Royal Volunteer Fire Department:
The Volunteer Stations of Warren County Fire and Rescue will be conducting their annual “Operation Santa” events by carrying Santa throughout their communities on the fire truck.
While every attempt is made to reach as many people possible in their community, unfortunately some homes will be unable to be reached. Below is information on each respective areas “Operation Santa” event.
During this event, please refrain from calling 911 or the Emergency Communications Centers non-emergency telephone number for information.
A few tips to ensure you see Santa on the fire truck:
- Listen for the sirens and be prepared. (crack a window or door to ensure you hear them coming)
- Have the children dressed and ready to “spring into action” for when Santa gets close.
- For the best possible viewing, take the children to the end of the driveway but stay clear of the roadway.
