Norman Russell Joseph Hunt (1943 – 2024)

Norman Russell Joseph Hunt, 80, of Front Royal, VA, and formerly of Lawrenceville, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in the comfort of his home.

A Funeral Mass will occur at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 5, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 200 W. Main St., Front Royal, VA, with Father Daniel Gee officiating. The family invites guests for a viewing and visitation one hour before the Mass at St. John’s. Following the Mass, the burial will occur in Prospect Hill Cemetery, and a reception will follow.

Norman was born on October 14, 1943, in Princeton, NJ, to the late Ralph B. Hunt and Edna Reed Updike. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, Sewell Updike, and his nephew, Ralph B. Hunt II.

Surviving Norman is his devoted wife of 53 years, Kathleen O’Donnell Hunt; his son, Douglas W. Hunt, with his wife, Jennifer McVeigh Hunt; and his daughter, Tara Hunt Johnson, with her husband, Troy R. Johnson. In addition, he is survived by his brother, George B. Hunt with his wife Judith Malm Hunt of Poughkeepsie, NY; his sister, Dora Updike Bowers with her husband Steven F. Bowers of Lawrenceville, NJ; Norman’s loving grandchildren, Teagan Grace Johnson, Tanner Rose Johnson, William F. Hunt, Ryan P. Hunt and Jake D. Hunt; his niece, Cherie Hunt Rizza; and his nephews, Errol K. Hunt and Scott J. Bowers.

Norman actively gave back to his community. He was a Boy Scout Leader, a soccer and baseball coach, and a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. John’s, and the American Legion Community Band. He excelled at various instruments since he was six; music brought him joy!

Norman graduated from The Hun School of Princeton, earned a Bachelor of Science Degree at Rider University, and also attended graduate school there.  He had a multi-faceted entrepreneurial spirit that led him to a myriad of business ventures, including a successful sod business for over 20 years, as well as landscaping and courier businesses in New Jersey. He completed his professional career as a high school math teacher in Warren County, VA.

Many were blessed to have known Norman. He was patient, easygoing, and mild-mannered, with a great sense of humor and a quick wit. Norman will forever be remembered as a family man, a jovial friend, a positive role model, and a loving steward of animals.

Pallbearers will be Scott Bowers, Steven Bowers, Carl Hansen, Douglas Hunt, Errol Hunt, George Hunt, Jake Hunt, Ryan Hunt, William Hunt, Troy Johnson, Michael O’Donnell, and Mike Pineda-O’Donnell.
