Virginia State Police have identified the victim of a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred Tuesday night on Interstate 66 in Warren County. VSP spokeswoman Corrine Geller said in an email Thursday evening that the victim was Steven D. Mackall, 55, of Washington, D.C.

Shortly before 8:25 p.m. Tuesday, two pickup trucks were traveling together eastbound on Interstate 66. When one of the two pickups experienced a flat tire, both pickups pulled off to the right shoulder at the 5-mile marker. While working on the front, driver’s side tire of his silver Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck, Mackall was struck by an eastbound tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer did not stop and continued east on I-66.

Geller said the only description witnesses could provide of the tractor-trailer was that it was white in color. The crash occurred right at the highway sign announcing Exit 6 for Winchester in one mile.

Mackall died at the scene. Those in the other pickup were not injured in the crash.

Anyone who may have seen the crash or can provide information about the white tractor-trailer is asked to call the Virginia State Police at 540-829-7766 or email at questions@vsp.virginia.gov.
