Roy Boyles’ memorial service slated for Saturday, Jan. 7

A memorial service for former Warren County School Board chairman Roy Boyles will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, at Warren County High School Auditorium.

Beginning at noon, friends of Boyles will be received by the family, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Boyles, 58,  died following a long fight with cancer on Dec, 30. Honorary pall bearers will be members of the Rotary Club of Front Royal.

A longtime community leader, Boyles moved from his native North Carolina to Front Royal with his family in 1964. He graduated from Warren County High School in 1976, attended Lord Fairfax Community College, and later was to serve for 11 years on the school board, four of them as chairman. He was named president of the Virginia School Boards Association in 2012. He retired in 2015 after 21 years with the office of the Commissioner of the Revenue. His last position was Master Deputy Commissioner

Boyles’ service to the community was through membership of, and holding officer positions in, Rotary Club of Front Royal, Kiwanis Club, Chamber of Commerce, Warren Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, United Way, Salvation Army, and as a deacon at Marlow Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors include: his wife, Sharon; daughters Brittany Boyles Sager and Brandi Boyles Schindler; a brother, David and sisters Aneita Bryant and Janine Evans.
