FRONT ROYAL — Pancakes, sausages and smiles were on the menu Tuesday evening at the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake supper at Calvary Episcopal Church in Front Royal.

Mary Jean Taylor and Lisa Parker serve up pancakes and smiles Tuesday evening at the Shrove Tuesday pancake supper.

Member Mickey Taylor, the unofficial maî·tre d’ of supper, says the event has been held for about the last 20 of the 35 years he has been a member of the 132 N. Royal Ave. church.

Taylor says the supper is an event in which he and wife, Mary Jean are happy to volunteer.  He said that with the help of about eight youth volunteers and five kitchen workers, an estimated 65-70 diners would be served.

Calvary Episcopal Church serves as the site for Tuesday’s Table, an outreach and mission program in partnership with several local nonprofits, that offers a free meal each Tuesday evening. Pastor Debbie Rutter said the church is happy to serve as the site for the program, but stressed that the success of Tuesday’s Table depends upon all member organizations.

Mickey Taylor rounds up his youth volunteers for a quick photo Tuesday evening.
