Suspicious Driver Behavior Leads to Arrest of Arlington Man and Discovery of Explosive Devices in Stolen Car

The press release issued by the Warren Co. Sheriff’s Office and Fire & Rescue makes no sense whatsoever.  It is either a complete fabrication or gross incompetence.

At approximately 9:30 pm on January 2nd, there was a loud explosion in Front Royal.  Our house shook, and Facebook lit up with everyone asking what it was.  Some claimed to call the police and were told that the police had no idea what it was.  Yet, according to the press release, the bomb squad technicians from Loudoun County were the ones who “conducted a controlled detonation” near Eastham Park.  The police didn’t know?

Why create an explosion near Eastham Park?  The vehicle was found on Hillandale Road.  That means, whomever transported these “materials” had to drive through town to get to a park that is in a residential neighborhood.

If the materials were “safe” to transport, wouldn’t they be safe to keep for evidence?  Why blow it up at all, much less blow it up in town close to homes?

Why wasn’t the public IMMEDIATELY informed?  There should have been a televised press release, or at the very least, recorded phone calls to every residence, as is often done when the Sheriff’s department needs to get the news out quickly.

In light of the previous day’s incidents in New Orleans and Las Vegas, one would think a bomb driven from the D.C. metro area, 60 miles west, on the same day would make National news, yet, crickets….

Why isn’t this being treated as a possible terrorist attack?  Is the FBI involved here as well?  What was this person going to do with these explosives?

Am I the only one left scratching her head?
