Three great reasons to learn Pilates

Published

on

Pilates is a workout that will tone your body and relax your mind. If you’re skeptical because you associate the name with a confusing table-like contraption that looks awkward to use, don’t worry. These days, Pilates is usually practiced with a mat on the floor, no extra equipment required. Anybody at any age can benefit from a weekly Pilates class and will gain the following three benefits:

1. A toned core. The muscles in your abdominals, lower back and pelvic floor support your whole body and strengthening them will improve your balance and posture while easing back pain if you happen to have any.

2. Reduced stress. Similar to other mind-body exercises like yoga and tai chi, Pilates forces you to concentrate on the movement of your body and forget about your worries while you practice.

3. Improved flexibility. The stretches and exercises elongate your muscles and improve your range of motion.

Learning Pilates is beneficial whether you’re a high performance athlete or have never exercised a day in your life. The movements can be adapted to absolutely anyone’s abilities. It’s also great for those who travel because as long as you have a mat and a quiet spot, you can do Pilates.
