VDOT: Warren County Traffic Alert for April 20 – 24, 2026
The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in Warren County in the coming weeks. Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supply issues. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic traffic pattern changes and lane closures.
INTERSTATE 66
Mile marker 2 to 0, westbound – Shoulder closures for road work related to I-81 southbound widening, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through May 1.
INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 299 to 300, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures northbound from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through night of April 30. Single shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour. Traffic restrictions are related to I-81 southbound widening project.
PRIMARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) – Eastbound and westbound overnight single lane closures between Front Royal town limits and Fauquier County line for crack sealing, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nights through April 30.
*NEW* Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) – Eastbound and westbound overnight mobile lane closures between Front Royal town limits and Fauquier County line for pavement marking operations, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nights through April 29.
*NEW* Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Mobile lane closures between Shenandoah County line and town of Front Royal for pavement marking operations, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through April 30.
Route 55 (Front Royal Road) – Temporary signal controlling traffic 24/7 at Shenandoah County line for maintenance to bridge over North Fork Shenandoah River, through May 1.
SECONDARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 725 (Daughters of Stars Drive) – Mobile lane closures between dead end and Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) for pavement marking operations, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through April 30.
Vegetation management may occur district-wide across various routes. VDOT reminds motorists to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
