VDOT: Warren County Traffic Alert for April 27 – May 1, 2026
The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in Warren County in the coming weeks. Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supply issues. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic traffic pattern changes and lane closures.
INTERSTATE 66
*UPDATE* Mile marker 2 to 0, westbound – Shoulder closures for road work related to I-81 southbound widening, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through January 2028.
INTERSTATE 81
*UPDATE* Mile marker 299 to 300, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures northbound from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nights through Thursday. Single shoulder closures 24/7 through January 2028. The work zone speed limit is 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are related to the I-81 southbound widening project.
PRIMARY ROADS
*UPDATE* Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Temporary signal controlling traffic 24/7 at the Shenandoah County line for maintenance to the bridge over the North Fork Shenandoah River, through May 15.
Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) – Eastbound and westbound overnight single lane closures between Front Royal town limits and the Fauquier County line for crack sealing, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. nights through Thursday.
Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) – Eastbound and westbound overnight mobile lane closures between Front Royal town limits and the Fauquier County line for pavement marking operations, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nights through Wednesday.
Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Mobile lane closures between the Shenandoah County line and the town of Front Royal for pavement marking operations, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday.
*NEW* Urban Route 112 (West Criser Road, Front Royal) – Flagger traffic control between Route 681 (Luray Avenue) and Route 340 (South Royal Avenue/Stonewall Jackson Highway) for rock and soil testing, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday and Friday.
SECONDARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 604 (Harmony Hollow Road) – Flagger traffic control for utility work between Route 522 (Remount Road) and the dead end, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through May 8.
Route 725 (Daughters of Stars Drive) – Mobile lane closures between dead end and Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) for pavement marking operations, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday.
Vegetation management may occur district-wide across various routes. VDOT reminds motorists to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
