Warren County Leaders Must Own Up to Their True Agenda on Library Board
So, let me get this straight:
Four out of five members of the Warren County Board of Supervisors (BoS) repeatedly insisted that there was no book removal agenda behind the decision to create a new library board. Supervisors Jamieson and Cook repeatedly insisted that it was all about the need for greater “financial oversight” and better management.
And yet, of the BoS appointees to the new library board, at least three were involved in the “Clean Up Samuels” group, and as I’ve learned, one in particular and his family members submitted 27 book removal requests.
In addition, I know that several people with excellent qualifications applied and were never contacted. Is that because those people oppose the effort to remove books and defund Samuels? It sure looks like the BoS didn’t even attempt to appoint members from both sides of the debate to this new board, which is what they would have done had they acted in good faith.
What amazes me most is the blatant lying. Jamieson and Cook insisted there was no deeper agenda. Are none of them who supported this ashamed of their deceit? They should be, especially as people who consider themselves Christian. Deceit is not a Christian virtue.
They don’t even have room for plausible deniability. Their agenda was obvious all along. They knew it, Samuels supporters knew it, the wider public knew it. If nothing else, they should have the courage to own up to their true intentions instead of blatantly lying and expecting people to believe them. But they won’t because they (except Supervisor Cullers) have shown themselves to be unethical, deceitful people without integrity. They have abused their power and continue to abuse it. We – Warren County voters and Samuels Library supporters – will do all we can to remove them from the BoS and reverse the damage they have done to our wonderful library and this community.
