Warren County Sheriff’s Office Conducts Successful Sting Operation Against Online Predation

Published

on

In a move to combat the online solicitation of minors, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office executed a proactive undercover chat operation on Saturday, February 17, 2024. This operation, focused within the Warren County/Front Royal area, aimed to identify and apprehend individuals targeting minors via the internet with malicious intent.

During the sting, an adult male, later identified as William John Wester, age 25, from Chester, Virginia, initiated contact with an undercover investigator posing as a minor under 15 years of age. Wester solicited lewd photos and content, believing he was communicating with a juvenile female. He further transmitted obscene materials to the investigator, believing them to be a minor, thus incriminating himself through unprovoked and illicit actions.

The investigative team successfully identified Wester as the suspect behind these actions. On March 14, 2024, they apprehended him in Chesterfield County, VA, without any complications. Following his arrest, Wester was detained at the Chesterfield County Jail on a $7,500 bond, with his court appearance scheduled for April 4, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. in Warren County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.

The Warren County Sheriff’s Office is a committed participant in the Northern Virginia/DC Metro Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, led by the Virginia State Police. This partnership underscores the collaborative efforts to safeguard children from online threats and exploitation. The Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information on the solicitation or exploitation of minors to come forward and assist in these critical investigations.

Special thanks were extended to the Chesterfield County Police Department for their indispensable assistance in the operation and the subsequent arrest of Wester. These efforts reflect the strong inter-agency cooperation essential for protecting the community, particularly its most vulnerable members, from digital-age predators.

For more information or to report concerns, contact Sergeant M.R. Ramey of the Criminal Investigations Unit at (540) 635-7100 or email mramey@warrencountysheriff.org. The Warren County Sheriff’s Office remains dedicated to preventing the exploitation of minors and ensuring the safety and well-being of our community through vigilant investigation and enforcement.

  • Name: William J. Wester
  • Description: 6’02” white male, green eyes and blonde hair
  • Address: Chester, VA
  • Charges: Use of communications systems to facilitate certain offenses involving children (x3 counts)
