New Faces and Community Spaces: Warren County DSS Welcomes Susan Alger and Announces Key Events

Published

on

Warren County Department of Social Services (DSS) is excited to introduce Susan Alger as the new job developer, bringing her extensive background in volunteer program management and her commitment to community service to Warren County. Michelle Smeltzer, Community Liaison Director for Warren County DSS, and Alger discussed upcoming community events and initiatives designed to support and connect residents with vital resources.

Susan Alger, a local with a rich history of public service, including 30 years as a state game warden and managing a volunteer program for the game department, is poised to leverage her skills in her new role. “I’m a natural born matchmaker; seeing a need, I want to fill it,” Alger stated, emphasizing her proactive approach to connecting job seekers with opportunities.

Quarterly One-Stop Resource Event Scheduled for March 6th

The Warren County DSS is also gearing up for its quarterly One-Stop Resource event, which is set to take place on March 6th from 1 to 3 p.m. at the community center. This event, free and open to all, showcases the wide array of resources available in Warren County, from healthcare to veteran services. It’s not just an opportunity for residents to find support; it’s also a prime occasion for volunteers to discover organizations in need of their time and talents.

Hope and Rest Temporary Shelter (HARTS) Seeks Support

As winter continues, HARTS urgently needs support to assist the homeless population. With 84 individuals seeking shelter this season, the need for powdered drinks, coffee, sugar, tents, and sleeping bags for the shelter’s closing is critical. The community’s generosity plays a pivotal role in ensuring these individuals have a safe place during the coldest months.

House of Hope’s Empty Bowl Supper

Looking ahead, the House of Hope is preparing for its Empty Bowl Supper on April 11th, a significant fundraiser supporting men in need. For $35, participants receive a handcrafted bowl and enjoy a variety of soups, with proceeds going directly to the House of Hope. The event is a testament to the community’s spirit of giving and collaboration.

Valley Health Volunteer Service and Upcoming Shred Day

The newly appointed Director of Valley Health Volunteer Services aims to bolster volunteer engagement, highlighting the ongoing need for community involvement in healthcare. Additionally, the Rotary Club of Warren County’s Shred Day, scheduled for June 27th, offers residents a secure way to dispose of sensitive documents, with donations benefiting the local fire department.

A Community Connected

These initiatives and events underscore Warren County DSS’s commitment to fostering a supportive, connected community. Whether through job development, resource fairs, or charitable events, the department, along with partners like Susan Alger and Michelle Smeltzer, continues to make a tangible impact on the lives of Warren County residents.

Contact the Warren County Department of Social Services for more information on these events and how to get involved.
