John Francis “Butch” Gallaway Jr., 81, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Warren Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W Main Street, Front Royal, Virginia 22630, with Dottie Holden and Sammy Campbell officiating. The family invites guests to visit the funeral home the same day starting at 2 p.m. His burial will take place in Pennsylvania at a later date.

Butch was born on November 15, 1942, in Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania, to the late John Gallaway Sr. and Bernice Gallaway. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jim Gallaway and Abby Figgins, and his sister, Linda Baleskie.

Surviving Butch is his loving wife of 59 years, Janice Gallaway; his children, Donald Slingluff Jr., Wanda Hilliard (Stewart), Cindy Slingluff (Karan) and John Gallaway III (Angie); his siblings, Judy Thompson, Russel Figgins, Allen Figgins and Sharon Manual; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Stewart Jr., Donald III, Stacey, Stanley, Sara, James, Elizabeth and Laura; and his 10 great-grandchildren.

Butch was a member of the Elks Lodge of Front Royal, Virginia. He worked for Avtex Fibers for 21 years, then retired from the town of Front Royal. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, playing bingo, and the great outdoors, but he loved his dogs, Sissy and Lady, and more than anything, he loved his wife, Janice.
