Nancy Lee Dofermire, 93, passed away at Warren Memorial Hospital on the evening of June 5, 2024.

Nancy Lee Dofermire

Nancy was born in Winchester, VA, on February 27, 1931, to Mary & Ernest Bolton. She was the fourth of fourteen children.

On December 10, 1949, she married Paul “Amos” Dofermire.  They were married for 60 years until his passing in 2010.  Together, they had 4 children.  Nancy loved to read.  No matter the hour, if you dropped by her house, you were likely to find her in either her rocking chair or on the front porch swing with a cup of coffee and a book.  In addition to reading, she loved her plants.  Her house and porches were covered in various plants and flowers, and she had a story about almost everyone.  Some were gifts from her children, and some were sent all the way from her sister in Florida.  She was also a lefty who loved to bowl and continued to do so until she was well into her 80s.  While those who knew her well would describe her as spunky, spirited, and maybe even a bit sassy, she was also strong, self-reliant, and dependable.

Nancy is survived by her children, Judi Melrath (Herb), Bonnie Baker, Tina Alexander, & Paul Dofermire Jr., her grandchildren, Joette James, Amanda Nicholson (Trent), E.W. Alexander (Amy), Brittany Whited (Zach), Megan Dofermire, & Ashton Dofermire-Moore, Cybil Azevedo, Kelly Baker (Tracy), her great-grandchildren, Deni, Natalie, Alex, Walt, Ashlynn, Silas & Grant, her sisters, Frances Wines & Susan Williams, her brothers, James Bolton & John Bolton, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024, with the service following at 2 p.m. at the Chapel at Shenandoah Memorial Park, 1270 Front Royal Pike, Winchester, with Sammy Campbell officiating.  Entombment will follow at the cemetery.
