Eleanor Roots Schumann (1934 – 2024)

Eleanor Roots Schumann passed away peacefully on September 10th, in her home in Front Royal, VA, one month after her 90th birthday.

She was born on Lushan Mountain in China into a missionary family. Returning to the United States when she was 17, she joined Moral Rearmament (MRA) for several years before pursuing a nursing degree from Johns Hopkins University.

In 1960, she moved to Paris to work at the L’Hopital Americain for a year abroad.

One year later, she turned 54, having moved to Germany, met her future husband Reinhard, and raised four children.

After Reinhard died in 2014, she returned to the United States and settled in Front Royal with her son Karl and family.

Eleanor is survived by her brother Logan Roots, four children, Steven Schumann, Astrid Zoller, Sigrid Kuhlencordt, and Karl Schumann, and seven grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Reinhard, her parents Logan and Mamie Lou Roots, and her sister Loretta Libby.

A funeral service will be held at Calvary Episcopal Church in Front Royal, and she will be buried on Mackinac Island, Michigan.
