Angel Tree Program Brings Holiday Joy and Inspires Future Giving
The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program in Front Royal has once again delivered holiday cheer to hundreds of children and families. Held at the Royal Plaza headquarters, the program provided gifts to 176 children in the Front Royal-Warren County area and another 300 in Luray. Community members played a vital role by adopting “angels” and donating presents to ensure local children had a bright Christmas.
Salvation Army Major Sheed Tarnue, along with board members Ken Thurman, Glenn Wood and William Huck, expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support from neighbors and volunteers. “This community shows so much love for one another,” said Thurman. “We’ve spent the last few weeks packing, sorting, and organizing, and it’s been incredible to see people step up and make this happen.”
A Season of Generosity
The Angel Tree program capped off a season filled with giving. Starting with the Kettle Campaign on November 23, volunteers raised funds for essential Salvation Army services such as food assistance, rental aid, and clothing distribution. Thurman, who volunteered himself, highlighted the impact of the donations, emphasizing how the organization supports families in need all year long.
Major Tarnue, who joined the Front Royal Salvation Army team just before the holiday season, commended the community for its unwavering support, “The generosity shown here reflects the heart of this area. Programs like Angel Tree thrive because of the kindness and collaboration we see from residents and volunteers.”
Looking to 2025
While this year’s Angel Tree was a success, plans are already underway for 2025. The team hopes to expand their reach, improve logistics, and encourage even more community participation. The Salvation Army also continues to offer year-round assistance for those in need, including food, clothing, and financial support.
Major Tarnue shared his optimism for the future, “Every year, we learn how to improve and grow. We’re already thinking about ways to make 2025 even better for the families we serve.”
Year-Round Support
The Salvation Army remains committed to helping those in need beyond the holidays. Residents looking for assistance—or those who wish to give back—are encouraged to visit the Family Store at 296 South Street or the Corps Community Center on 357 Cloud Street. For more information, call (540) 635-4020 or visit the Salvation Army Front Royal website or their Facebook page.
As the community reflects on this year’s accomplishments, the spirit of giving continues to inspire efforts for the future. The Angel Tree program serves as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when people come together to support one another.
