A Front Royal man is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) into a reported attempted sexual assault on November 24, 2025.

According to authorities, deputies responded to a report from a 28-year-old female victim who alleged that a male suspect attempted to rape her at a residence. The victim stated that the suspect tried to engage in nonconsensual sex and also prevented her from leaving the home.

The WCSO initiated a preliminary investigation, and the case was quickly transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division for further evidence collection and interviews.

John A. Reel, 30, of Front Royal, was taken into custody on December 1, 2025, following an investigation by the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. He is being held without bond on multiple felony charges.

During the investigation, detectives identified and interviewed the suspect, John A. Reel, 30, of Front Royal, and gathered additional evidence linked to the reported incident.

Following a thorough investigation, WCSO obtained felony warrants for Reel on the following charges:

  • Attempted Rape
  • Abduction
  • Strangulation

On December 1, 2025, Reel was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Rappahannock, Shenandoah, Warren (RSW) Regional Jail. He appeared before a magistrate and is currently being held without bond.

Reel’s initial court appearance is scheduled for January 14, 2026, in Warren County General District Court.

The WCSO noted that the case remains active and ongoing, and no additional information will be released at this time.
