Children Activities by Samuels Public Library for the Month of April

These are the events being presented by the Youth Services Department at Samuels Public Library during the month of April 2026.  More information about Samuels Library and the programs and services available can be found at www.samuelslibrary.net or by calling (540) 635-3153.


Wednesday, April 1

  • 10:15AM – Toddler Story Time. 
  • 11:00AM – Preschool Story Time.
    Looking for a fun and enriching activity for your little one? Join us for a magical hour of Pond Life stories, lively sing-alongs, playful finger games, and a creative craft!

Thursday, April 2

  • 10:30 AM – Grand Story Time.  For ages 0-6.  Join us for a heartwarming story time as a special grandparent guest shares favorite tales, classic nursery rhymes, and then unleash your creativity with a craft activity of your choice.

Saturday, April 4

  • 10:00 AM – Story Walk at Eastham.  Join us as we welcome spring back with the Anti-Litter Council at Eastham Park.  Come read Earth Ninja by Mary Nhin and do a recyclable craft!
  • 2:30 PM – Civil War Cooking: Teens Connect. For ages 12-18. Step back in time and discover what fueled Civil War soldiers! You are invited to explore the unique foods of the North and South—and even try out some authentic recipes. Ready for a taste of history? Don’t miss this hands-on experience! Registration is required.

Monday, April 6

  • 10:15 AM – Music & Movement for Babies (ages 0-23 months).
  • 11:15 AM – Music & Movement for Toddlers (ages 2-5).
    Join our fun and joyful time with your little ones as we listen to music while learning some basic movements and multisensory activities designed to delight your baby or toddler.

Tuesday, April 7

  • 10:30 AM – “Egg” Plants: Homeschool Hub.  For ages 6-11.  Curious about what plants need to thrive? Ever wondered if eggshells can help your garden grow? Join us as we plant seeds in eggshells and discover the science behind healthy plants!  Registration is required.

Wednesday, April 8

  • 10:15AM – Toddler Story Time. 
  • 11:00AM – Preschool Story Time.
    Looking for a fun and enriching activity for your little one? Join us for a magical hour of Recycling stories, lively sing-alongs, playful finger games, and a creative craft!

Thursday, April 9

  • 10:30 AM – Grand Story Time.  For ages 0-6.  Join us for a heartwarming story time as a special grandparent guest shares favorite tales, classic nursery rhymes, and then unleash your creativity with a craft activity of your choice.

Saturday, April 11

  • 10:00 AM, 10:20 AM, 10:50 AM, 11:10 AM.  Paws for Reading.  For ages 6-18.
    Paw for Reading is a program where people read aloud to trained therapy dogs, which helps improve their reading skills, confidence, and attitudes toward reading.
    This program provides a non-judgmental and stress-free environment, as the dogs are calm, attentive listeners who don’t correct mistakes, making it less intimidating for children.
    Bring your own book or use one of ours! Registration is required.

Monday, April 13

  • 10:15 AM – Music & Movement for Babies (ages 0-23 months).
  • 11:15 AM – Music & Movement for Toddlers (ages 2-5).
    Join our fun and joyful time with your little ones as we listen to music while learning some basic movements and multisensory activities designed to delight your baby or toddler.

Tuesday, April 14

  • 4:00 PM – 2.50 Million Acts of Science!  For ages 6-11.  Join us as we celebrate America’s 250th Birthday by working together toward an incredible goal: 2.5 million Acts of Science! Throughout the month, we’ll dive into exciting projects like White Squirrel Mapping and Nitrate Watch—making real discoveries and a positive impact in our community. Ready to be a part of something bigger? Let’s explore, learn, and make history together! Registration is required.

Wednesday, April 15

  • 10:15AM – Toddler Story Time. 
  • 11:00AM – Preschool Story Time.
    Looking for a fun and enriching activity for your little one? Join us for a magical hour of Planet Earth stories, lively sing-alongs, playful finger games, and a creative craft!

Thursday, April 16

  • 10:30 AM – Grand Story Time.  For ages 0-6.  Join us for a heartwarming story time as a special grandparent guest shares favorite tales, classic nursery rhymes, and then unleash your creativity with a craft activity of your choice.

Saturday, April 18

  • 11:00 AM – Tales & Trails: Batty Bunch. For ages 5-11. Discover the fascinating world of bats with us at Shenandoah River State Park! Learn about these amazing nocturnal creatures, find out what scents attract them, and get creative with a fun bat-themed craft—guided by park rangers and librarians! Registration is required.

Monday, April 20

  • 10:15 AM – Music & Movement for Babies (ages 0-23 months).
  • 11:15 AM – Music & Movement for Toddlers & Preschoolers (ages 2-5).

  • 10:30 AM – Seeding Machine: Homeschool Hub. For ages 6-11. Discover how technology is transforming farming! Join us for a hands-on workshop where you’ll design and build your very own “seeding machine.” Registration is required.

  • 10:15AM – Toddler Story Time. 
  • 11:00AM – Read with the Sheriff: Preschool Story Time
    Looking for a fun and enriching activity for your little one? Join us for a magical hour of Plant Life stories, lively sing-alongs, playful finger games, and a creative craft!

  • 10:30 AM – Grand Story Time.  For ages 0-6.  Join us for a heartwarming story time as a special grandparent guest shares favorite tales, classic nursery rhymes, and then unleash your creativity with a craft activity of your choice.

  • The library will be closed for our annual fundraiser, Taste For Books.

Monday, April 27

  • 4:00 PM – Growing Worms.  For ages 6-11.  Join us as we grow colorful paper worms using capillary action—just add water and watch them magically expand! Plus, enjoy fun worm-themed stories while you create. Registration is required.
