A third candidate has announced a run to succeed Danny McEathron as sheriff of Warren County.  McEathron announced on August 1 that he would not seek re-election in 2019.

The thirty-one-year veteran of the Warren County Sheriff’s Office Michael “Mickey” Licklider notified the media of his run on August 27.  He joins Winchester Police Department Cpl. Jason Poe and Fairfax County Officer Mark Butler in putting their hats in the ring to succeed the retiring 16-year incumbent.

Licklider’s press release notes that his entire 31-year career in law enforcement has been with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.  His service has included stints as a patrolman, patrol sergeant, investigator, jailor, firearms instructor and six years as a SWAT team member.  The 60-year-old Licklider currently serves on the Warren County Courthouse Security detail.

If elected Licklider set an agenda including “a proactive partnership with citizens to identify and solve” public safety concerns; as well as work with school administrators and sheriff’s office school resource officers “to continually monitor the safety and security of our schools”; a continuation of the fight against drugs in the community; and educational efforts to inform senior citizens about phone and online scams and general safety awareness.

“Deputy Licklider has dedicated his law enforcement career to serving and protecting the citizens of Warren County,” his press release states, adding, “He recognizes the importance of professional, trustworthy and dedicated law enforcement in our community for all citizens.”
