The United Way of Front Royal-Warren County completed its annual Day of Caring event on Friday, September 13th. This year’s event was a success! Over 150 volunteers were involved from Warren County, completing nearly 20 projects in the local community during the course of the Day. Well over 11,500 volunteer hours were logged during the event.

Projects undertaken this year included trash cleanup, landscaping, brush cleanup and removal, plumbing and electrical repair, as well as some light construction work. Volunteers from many local organizations were involved.

One shining example of a project undertaken during this year’s Day of Caring included the repair of an outside staircase at St. Luke Community Clinic. 84 Lumber (Front Royal) donated all the materials for the repair, and Gibson Home Services, LLC spent the entire day completing the repair.

The Co-Chairs for this year’s event were Mark Bower and Bill Powers. Planning for the Day began in May, several months prior to the actual event. Many hours of prepartation went into ensuring that the event was well organized. All told, the Day of Caring Committee, chaired by Mr. Bower and Mr. Powers, logged over 100 volunteer hours in completing this event.

“We are very pleased with the outcome of this year’s Day of Caring event,” stated Steven Schetrom, Executive Director, when asked about this year’s event. “It was great to be part of a concerted volunteer effort to help our fellow citizens.”

Since 1950, the United Way has worked to advance the common good in Front Royal-Warren County. The community wins when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable, and when people are healthy. The United Way’s goal is to create long-lasting change by addressing the underlying causes of the challenges we face. Living United means being part of the change!
