Buzzwords or Real Life? Why Lived Experience Beats a Polished Pitch

Published

The difference between a candidate who knows all the buzzwords and one who got caught getting buzzed?

In every election, there’s someone who sounds perfect on paper: polished speeches, the right buzzwords, maybe even tossing in “small business owner” as a reason you should trust them. But that doesn’t mean they’re honest, and it certainly doesn’t mean they’re right for the job.

We’ve all seen the type. They talk about “transparency” while bending the truth behind closed doors. They say whatever they think we want to hear. They “show up” when it’s convenient – for themselves. At the end of the day, they seem more interested in building a personal brand than serving the people who live here.

Leadership isn’t about repeating talking points. It’s about telling the truth, even when it’s not popular, and showing up when it matters. Our town doesn’t need another smooth-talking politician, especially one who parrots the same tired lines as the politicians already in power – the ones many of us have lost trust in.

One of the candidates running for our Board of Supervisors talks a lot about “tourism potential.” And sure, tourism has its place. But it’s not a fix-all. It won’t repair roads, lower taxes, make housing more affordable, or keep our neighborhoods safe. And it certainly doesn’t make someone honest or qualified to lead.

The difference between a candidate who knows all the buzzwords and one who got caught getting buzzed? One memorized the script but walked away when things didn’t go his way. The other lived through what the rest of us are still dealing with, faced the consequences, paid his dues, and understands what this community really needs and how to make those things happen.
