Drescher steps down as EDA board chairman
Following a closed session on Friday, August 24, Greg Drescher announced he would be stepping down as chairman of the Front Royal-Warren County Economic Development Authority Board of Directors, effective immediately. The superintendent of Warren County Public Schools will remain on the EDA board.
EDA Executive Director Jennifer McDonald told Royal Examiner that Vice-Chairman Bruce Drummond will fill the chairman’s role until the board votes on a permanent replacement at next month’s meeting.
Drescher cited the time strain of the position, coupled with his “real job” as superintendent of the county’s public school system. While saying in a prepared statement that he believed neither job suffered from his dual roles, he added, “I will say there were times it has taken some juggling.
“From the outset, I agreed to do this on a short-term basis. Our board has gone through some changes in the past couple of years. With the illness and passing of our friends Patty (Wines) and Jim (Eastham) and as another board member moved from the community, it appeared to be my turn to take on the role of chair.”
Drescher said he felt the new board had gotten its “sea legs” and is ready to move on with new leadership.
“It is a pleasure working with this board and alongside Jennifer (McDonald) and Missy (Henry). To a person the EDA has one focus, helping our community become a stronger and more vibrant place to live, work and play,” he concluded.
