Elizabeth Belle “Betty” Leckie (1937 – 2026)

Elizabeth Belle “Betty” Leckie, 88, of Front Royal, Virginia, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Warren Memorial Hospital.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 11 AM at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, 18 West 6th Street, Front Royal, with the Rev. Anna Havron and the Rev. Robert H. Jones officiating.  Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Leckie was born on July 9, 1937, in Front Royal to the late Charles Raymond and Mildred Hockman Maddox.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Leckie, and brother, Raymond Maddox.  She was a member of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church and served as organist there for many years.  Mrs. Leckie received her Bachelor’s Degree from James Madison University and her Master’s Degree from the University of Virginia.  She taught Biology and Life Sciences in Warren County throughout her long teaching career.  She was honored with the Balfour Award and the Outstanding Young Educator Award.  She was listed in Outstanding Teachers of America and elected to the Honor Society in Education.

Survivors include her son, C. Maynard Leckie (Tereasa) of Stephens City, Virginia; daughter, Christina Leckie-Smith (Jerry) of Front Royal and two grandchildren, Madison Belle Leckie and Michael Cleveland Leckie.

Pallbearers will be Charles Maddox, Bill Maddox, Rob Chenoweth, Michael Leckie, C. Maynard Leckie, and Kyle Maddox.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 5, 2026, from 5 to 7 PM at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 West Main Street, Front Royal.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church, 18 West 6th Street, Front Royal, Virginia 22630.
