French & Indian War Foundation to Host Annual Meeting with Notable Guest Speaker

Published

on

The French & Indian War Foundation will hold its 22nd Annual Meeting on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Godfrey Miller Center in Winchester, Virginia. This free event invites history enthusiasts and the general public to learn about a pivotal era in early American history.

The meeting begins at 2 p.m. with the Foundation’s business session, where members will discuss organizational updates and plans for the coming year. At 3 p.m., the spotlight turns to guest speaker Brady Crytzer, a history instructor at Robert Morris University and an acclaimed author. Crytzer’s presentation, “Guyasuta and the Fall of Indian America,” delves into the fascinating life of Guyasuta, a prominent Seneca leader during the late 18th century.

Guyasuta’s story weaves through some of the most turbulent chapters in early American history. A central figure in Native American diplomacy, he was known for his efforts to form a Western Indian confederation. He first encountered a young George Washington in 1753 during Washington’s mission to Fort LeBoeuf. Guyasuta’s life encapsulates the delicate balance between resistance and adaptation as Native American nations grappled with the expanding United States.

The Godfrey Miller Center, located at 28 S. Loudoun Street in Winchester, will host the event. Attendees can expect an engaging afternoon of history, discussion, and reflection on a period that shaped the nation.
