Watch: Front Royal Celebrates the 2024 Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade
Front Royal, Virginia, came alive on December 7th with the annual Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade, a heartwarming community tradition that heralds the holiday season. Residents and visitors lined the streets downtown to enjoy an evening filled with festive floats, marching bands, and a much-anticipated appearance from Santa Claus himself.
This year’s parade, sponsored by Edward Jones, featured over 90 entries, showcasing the creativity of local businesses, nonprofits, schools, and church groups. Together, they brought to life the vibrant spirit and deep-rooted traditions that define the town.
A Parade of Local Talent
The parade began on a high note with the Honor Guard, featuring members of the Warren County Fire Department, Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and Front Royal Police Department. Their ceremonial presence set a dignified tone for the celebration.

Floats adorned with twinkling lights and creative designs delighted the crowd. Many participants tossed candy to eager children who lined the route with bags ready to be filled. Notable entries included colorful displays from the Warren County Girl Scouts, local marching bands, and a spectacular pirate ship that added a dash of whimsy to the procession.
Mayor Cockrell Shares Her Holiday Cheer
Front Royal Mayor Lori Cockrell joined residents to celebrate the evening and praised the event’s success.
“The crowd is amazing this year,” Mayor Cockrell said. “It’s a beautiful day; you can feel the holiday spirit everywhere. Events like this remind us of what makes Front Royal so special—our sense of togetherness and community pride.”
She also commended the effort behind the scenes. “It takes a village to bring this tradition to life, from the floats to the marching bands and all the volunteers. I’m so proud of everyone who participated and contributed.”
After greeting attendees, the mayor participated in the evening’s grand finale: the town’s tree-lighting ceremony.
Festive Cheer for All Ages
The parade captured the imagination of attendees of all ages. Children gleefully shouted their Christmas wish lists to the camera while judges, including Sue Laurence, evaluated the imaginative floats.
“The turnout is fantastic,” Laurence shared. “This parade is a hallmark of our community, and it’s always wonderful to see the creativity and joy that comes through.”
The crowd cheered as local high school marching bands from Warren County and Skyline performed spirited holiday music. Costumed characters like snowmen, Grinches, and a dancing Mr. Potato Head kept the audience entertained.
A Magical Conclusion
As the final floats passed, the excitement peaked with Santa Claus’s arrival atop a fire truck. The crowd erupted in cheers, and children waved enthusiastically as he wished everyone a Merry Christmas.
The evening concluded with the lighting of the town Christmas tree, accompanied by carolers from the Blue Ridge Singers. Their melodies added a peaceful yet celebratory note to close out the festivities.
For many, the Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade is more than just an event—it’s a treasured tradition reflecting Front Royal’s heart. One attendee noted, “This feels like a Hallmark movie come to life.”
The parade was another shining example of the community spirit that makes Front Royal so special. Residents are already looking forward to next year’s celebration, which promises to be just as magical.
