Front Royal Rings in the Season with Choir, Caroling, and Tree Lighting

The Blue Ridge Singers brought festive spirit to Front Royal’s annual Christmas celebration, leading a heartwarming singalong under the glow of twinkling lights. Though only a small group of the 40-plus-member choir performed, their harmonies filled the air with joy as they sang holiday classics like “Jingle Bells,” “Deck the Halls,” and “Silent Night.”

Attendees were invited to sing along, and the crowd eagerly joined in, their voices blending with the choir’s as laughter and holiday cheer echoed through the town square. The event wasn’t just about music, though—it was also a heartfelt dedication. Choir members paid tribute to first responders, military personnel, teachers, and healthcare workers, expressing gratitude for their service to the community.

The Singers also used the opportunity to promote their upcoming holiday concert series, promising evenings filled with intricate and internationally inspired music, followed by cookies to cap off the cozy atmosphere. Flyers for the concerts were handed out as they serenaded the audience one last time.

The festivities culminated with the town’s Christmas tree lighting, a cherished tradition at the Front Royal’s iconic gazebo. This local landmark structure was brought to life through the vision of the late Mayor John Marlow, whose legacy was honored during the ceremony. Plans to install a commemorative plaque in his memory were announced, ensuring his contributions to the community will be remembered for years to come.

Mayor Lori Cockrell reflected on the evolution of this tradition and the town’s efforts to enhance the holiday season. “When I was a child, the Christmas parade was such a magical experience for me,” she shared. “I remember standing on the street with my family, watching the floats go by, and now I get to share this tradition with my children. That makes it so special—a tradition that brings generations together.”

She also took a moment to recognize the hard work of the town’s staff in transforming Front Royal into a winter wonderland. “Our team has done a phenomenal job not just here at the gazebo but throughout the community,” she said. “Every wreath, every strand of lights—these decorations are a labor of love, and it shows. I hope it brings extra joy to everyone who sees them.”

As families gathered to count down to the tree lighting, Mayor Cockrell expressed her gratitude for the sense of togetherness that events like this bring to the community. “It’s nights like tonight that remind us how lucky we are to live in such a close-knit town. These traditions keep our community strong and vibrant,” she added.

With Santa Claus leading the countdown, the crowd eagerly joined in as the tree illuminated, marking the official start of the holiday season in Front Royal.

As families snapped photos with Santa by the glowing tree, a sense of tradition and togetherness filled the chilly December evening—a perfect reminder of the season’s magic.
