How to save a dying lawn
If your lawn is looking dry and brown, try these tips to bring your grass back to life.
Water your lawn
Grass that’s brown isn’t necessarily dead; many grasses go dormant during hot, dry spells. To revive the grass, water your lawn early in the morning and ensure it gets at least one inch of moisture a week.
Do a soil test
Test your soil for nutrient content and pH to determine what fertilizer type to use and whether to add lime to lower its acidity. Over fertilizing, using the wrong fertilizer and having soil that’s too acidic can cause grass to die.
Get rid of thatch buildup
Too much thatch—decomposed plant matter that builds up between the soil and grass—can make your yard look barren. Use a power rake to loosen the thatch and bring it to the surface to make room for new grass shoots.
If these tips don’t help, contact a landscaping expert to get a professional opinion.
