JoAnn Henderson (Martinez), born July 30, 1960, passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Warren Memorial Hospital at the age of 64. She was born to the late Thurman and Sandra Riley Whorton in Front Royal, VA.

JoAnn Henderson

JoAnn was a loving and creative spirit who brought beauty, warmth, and creativity to everything she touched. Her hands were rarely still, busy crocheting or bringing life to paper with her coloring and drawings (“They’re just doodles,” she would always say). Her creativity extended into the kitchen, where her home-cooked meals and baked goods became cherished expressions of her love for her family, friends, and even strangers. She took great pride in and often expressed her greatest accomplishment in raising her beautiful family.

Her legacy lives on in her surviving family members – husband Richard Henderson; daughters Christina (Sean) Fedak and Danielle (Don) Thompson; sisters Norma Jean (Matthew) Shaw and Donna (Sam) Grimsley; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is now reunited with her first husband, Fernando Martinez, and her sister, Beverly Figgins, whom we lovingly remember alongside her.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, at Community Church in Ashburn, Virginia. Additional details are forthcoming.

JoAnn’s memory reminds us of the beauty in creativity and the power of kindness. Her love and warmth touched the lives of so many, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
