John Allen Proper (1957 – 2026)

John Allen Proper, 69, of Washington, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

A funeral service will take place at 11 AM on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Maddox Funeral Home, 105 W Main Street, Front Royal, Virginia, with Pastor David Pruett officiating. The family invites guests to visit with them one hour prior to the service. John’s burial will take place at a later date.

John was born on January 14, 1957, in Titusville, Pennsylvania, to the late Monroe Morse and Barbara J. Ball Proper. He was also preceded in death by his adopted son, Caleb Proper.

Surviving John is his wife of 40 years, Sharron Proper; his children, Eve Proper, Jeremy Proper (Leslie), Shiloh Proper, Elizabeth Proper, and Ethan “James” Proper; his siblings, Ralph Proper (Shirley), Carol Proper, and Martha “Marti” Heisler (Bob); his eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four nieces; and two nephews.

John enjoyed beekeeping, camping, and tending to his garden. He was always working on one project or another. He had a successful kidney transplant operation in 1980, and that kidney lasted over 40 years.
