Published

on

The college may be closed on Monday, Jan. 21, but at 5:30 p.m., LFCC’s Fauquier Campus will open the doors to the Rose Loeb Student Center to welcome those wishing to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Choir will perform spiritual and contemporary songs under the direction of the Rev. Lemuel Montgomery.

Fauquier County resident Earlene Morgan, the daughter of the Rev. Leamon W. White, pastor of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. for 44 years, will deliver the keynote address. According to his obituary in the Washington Post, the Rev. White was instrumental in organizing the March on Washington.

His daughter is an attorney with the federal government, and was a Thurgood Marshall Scholar and won a Litigation Award while attaining her law degree from the David A. Clarke School of Law at the University of the District of Columbia. She has a master’s degree in religious education from and studied classical Hebrew and religion and society at Duke University.

Mrs. Morgan was an Army ROTC cadet while studying for her undergraduate degree at Emmanuel College in Boston. As an attorney, she has appeared in federal court and successfully written for a case before the Supreme Court. Before her law career, Mrs. Morgan taught classical Hebrew, language arts and history.

Light refreshments will follow the program. For more information, contact LFCC campus life and engagement specialist Chris Lambert at clambert@lfcc.edu, or (540) 351-1567.
