Make Warren County Great Again

Published

on

The recently elected officials of the Warren County Board of Supervisors whose campaign focused on supporting Samuel’s Public Library, are now positioned to address previous concerns and implement constructive measures.

One such initiative was scheduled for consideration at the January 8, 2026, Board of Supervisors Meeting under agenda item J5: the proposed repeal of Chapter 7, enacted on December 12, 2024, which established a County Library Board.

This change is overdue, as the prior appointment of members who displayed bias and prejudice against Samuel’s Public Library marked a departure from democratic principles.

Going forward, it will be important to revisit earlier decisions by the previous board and restore funds initially allocated to Samuels Public Library that were redirected to other departments. These funds should be returned to the library for operational use, as originally approved.

Departments that received these funds held meetings with the board to discuss financial requirements for the upcoming fiscal year. The additional resources acquired—originally designated for the library—resulted from the board’s decision to reduce library funding and can be viewed as an unplanned benefit.

The rationale behind this approach remains unclear; those funds could have been reallocated to the general fund or used to reduce county debt.

Transparency, accountability, and citizens’ concerns appear not to have been thoroughly considered in previous decision-making processes.
