Nadene Joyce Thomas Murphy (1941 – 2026)
Nadene Joyce Thomas Murphy, 85, of Front Royal, Virginia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

Nadene Joyce Thomas Murphy
Born in Criders, Virginia on April 16, 1941, she was the daughter of the late William P. and Lettie Dove Thomas. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, William Murphy; sisters, Geraldine Davis and Darlene Halterman; and a brother, Ken Thomas.
She lived a life marked by kindness, generosity, and quiet joy, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her. Nadene carried a gentle spirit and a natural inclination to care for others. Throughout her life, she was known for her thoughtfulness – the kind of person who showed love through small, meaningful gestures that made people feel seen and valued. She loved flea markets and yard sales. If you ever mentioned that you were looking for a specific item, she always kept an eye open for it and sooner or later she would appear with it, as a gift to you. Nadene was a member of the Front Royal United Methodist Church and lived a life of gratitude, faith, and appreciation for all of her blessings. Above all, she cherished her family and especially her two great-grandsons, Beau and Wade, whom she loved deeply. They brought her immense joy and happiness, and she delighted in watching them grow.
She is survived by her son, Forrest “Chip” Mathias II (Lorie); granddaughter, Kasey Hayes (Sean); grandson, Brian Mathias; two great-grandsons, Beau Hayes and Wade Hayes; step-sister, Doris Mongold (Ed); sisters-in-law, Charlotte Murphy, Beatrice Oakes, and Diane Murphy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dana Allison, Dylan Allison, Keith Mongold, Ricky Oakes, Bruce Murphy, Kyle Murphy, Chris Murphy, and Lonnie Murphy.
Funeral Services will be held at Maddox Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 2 PM with Sammy Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Panorama Memorial Gardens.
The family will greet family and friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Blue Ridge Caring, 333 West Cork Street, Winchester, Virginia 22601, or flowers are welcome.
